MEETING 1 JANUARY 31, 2018 – Downey HQ 11:00am

Introductions

DISCUSSION:

Opening remarks from Department – Hope is to increase communication to line staff and all staff on matters of officer and staff safety.  “Communicate down” properly.  Understand that we have legislation (1143, 878) that dictates our job but we need to bring staff along with us.  BSCC has already found us out of compliance, so we need to act but need to bring everyone with us.

Would like input from Unions in this process to help with implementation of directives to comply with laws as needed.  Recognize that nurses and other partner agencies are often involved in these safety problems so we want them here too for input.  Want the group to be solution oriented.  Take the problems in bites.

Another goal is to create localized committees at the facilities.  Spread word of main committee to local facilities and use local committees to address local issues as well.

Items on agenda were explained and a discussion about the reduced but changing population in our facilities.  Goals are to increase communication resulting in reductions of staff assaults, work place injury claims, and internal investigations.
