On December 3, 2019 the Board of Supervisors approved and signed our contract. We are not sure if the Auditor can process our new salary and back pay quick enough to make the December 15, 2019 payroll. However we have been assured that the December 30, 2019 will more likely be the date we get our money.
The Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) is offering a free Associate of Arts degree in Criminal Justice and other areas for current members of FOP. See attached flier with the information. There is a number to call and or instructions to apply on the attached document. All courses are on line and best yet, FREE. However, you must be a member of FOP.
Supreme Court Rules in Favor of Free-Riders: Union Drop-Outs Don’t Have to Pay Fair Share Fees, Not Entitled to Non-Core Union Benefits Today, the Supreme Court ruled that unions cannot collect fair share fees from employees who do not opt in to union membership. While the decision means some unions will face a significant in drop in revenue, public safety unions are not expected to be as heavily affected. This court decision was widely expected given the makeup of the Supreme Court and some recent cases. California recently passed laws giving unions opportunities to reduce the impacts of the decision.
Over 95,000 workers comprise the membership of SEIU Local 721 – making it the largest public sector union in Southern California. SEIU Local 21 represents people working in hospitals, foster care, mental health, courts, law enforcement, libraries, street services, beach maintenance, sanitation, water treatment, parks services and watershed management.
The Executive Board is excited and welcomes current and retired Supervisors to the Association’s new web page and App. We are committed to providing enhance services to our members past and present. We promised the members a quality product with many features, but it’s a work in progress, so be patient as we build onto the site. We are asking our members to reach out to our retirees and invite them to register. This will allow them to keep current with the “Happenings” in the Department.
